Utopia as a historical form of sociocultural expectation

The article provides an analysis of the main approaches to the concept of utopia, in the context of one or another aspect of humanitarian knowledge. Utopia seems to be a phenomenon that builds models of hypothetical sociocultural communities. It includes diverse social and cultural possibilities. The study is conducted taking into account the specifics of the concept of “utopia” in the framework of theories of various scientific fields and researchers. Having formed the concept of utopia as a form of social expectation, the author comes to the conclusion that utopia should be understood as a transformative impulse, and not a specific content or plan that outlines the desired social order. Studying how this utopian impulse manifests itself at various levels from the community to the global civil society, one can recognize that the concept of utopia as a historical form of social expectation can make a significant contribution to today's anthropological theory. The study seeks to deepen our understanding of how the concept ‘utopia’ can be applied in modern cultural studies. We presume that in the historical perspective, the transforming potential of ideology and utopia is quite high.

Keywords: utopian theory, hope, social expectations, social forecast
