International

THE BALTIC SEA REGION UNIVERSITY NETWORK SEMINAR

 YAROSLAV-THE-WISE NOVGOROD STATE UNIVERSITY

Veliky Novgorod, Russia
18-19 May 2009

Internationalisation is high on the agendas of national governments, international bodies and institutions of higher education. The political and in particular economic rationales that push at present institutions of higher education to become more international are mainly external factors.

That does not mean that universities have no incentive from inside to become more international. The academic environment itself has changed radically in the past fifty years. Higher education has become more deregulated, diverse in income sources, and market oriented. The entrepreneurial university of these days feels an inside need to become again more international.

The aim of this conference is to look at the process of integrating an international/intercultural dimension into the teaching, research and service functions of higher education institutions in the Baltic Region and to explore the link between international and local in the studying environment.

Paper proposals (500 words) are accepted to the following themes:

  • Creating New Identities for Institutions through Internationalization
  • Regional Universities: Issues of Visibility and International Recognition
  • Technology Education Today: Crisis or Development?
