30.11.2017  Russian and international scientists discuss the experience of interaction between the Baltic and the North-West at NovSU School of Humanities in Antonovo

Today, on November 30, the International Conference "The Baltic States and the Russian North-West: Historical Experience of Interaction" was opened at School of Humanities. Its main objective is to engage researchers in cooperation with the Center for the Study of the History of the Countries of the Baltic Region and the North-West of Russia.

"The Baltic Center became the tenth in the Antonovo Сomplex of NovSU," Elena Toropova, the director of NovSU School of Humanities, said at the opening of the conference. She noted that the Antonovo Innovative Complex was supported first by Deputy Prime Minister of Russia Olga Golodets in 2014, and then by President Vladimir Putin. However, University had to look for money to implement the project by itself. Elena Toropova expressed a hope that it would be possible to win a grant next year. "Since we joined the list of 22 Russian flagship universities, we have the opportunity to participate in a competition, in which we hope to win and get money for the development of the Antonovo Complex. Although, as it was promised, we will receive support from the federal budget in other education areas, "she said.

Russian scientists from St. Petersburg, Veliky Novgorod, Voronezh, Moscow and Zvenigorod, Kazan, Novosibirsk, Pskov and international researchers from Estonia, Germany, Poland, Sweden take part in the conference. Some of them will make reports via the Internet. By the way, Elena Toropova, presented a Letter of Gratitude the guest from Sweden, Professor Elizabeth Lefstrand from Stockholm University. She in turn said: "For 25 years I have been engaged, as we say, by the Novgorod occupation archive. If you remember, in the early 17th century the Swedes occupied the city. I like visiting your city, I like walking around it and enjoying the beauty of the monuments. Thank you for your hospitality and for the invitation to participate in this conference."

It should be added that about 25 reports of historical, archaeological and cultural profile of a wide thematic and temporal coverage are presented in the program of the conference. In particular, the following reports were delivered to the plenary session: "Prospects for studying Russian-Livonian relations in the light of foreign archival collections"; "Crusades to Russia 1240-1242": whether they were "crusade": commentary on the book of A. Selart, "" Baptism, "the yoke of Christianity" and the conquest of the peoples of the Eastern Baltic in the XIII century ", etc. 

From 3:00 pm, two sections will begin its work: "International interaction within the Baltic cultural and historical space" (Center for Creative Intellectuals named after V.V. Soroki, aud.1228) and "Historical experience of interstate interactions of the Russian North-West" (conference hall of the Humanitarian Institute, aud.1204).
