09.03.2017  Novgorod Historical Collection was presented in Antonovo

On March 7, NovSU School of Humanities hosted a presentation of the "Novgorod Historical Collection", published in 2016 within the framework of scientific cooperation of the Yaroslav-the-Wise Novgorod State University and St. Petersburg Institute for History of the Russian Academy of Sciences

The sixteenth edition of the Novgorod Historical Collection includes research materials on the history and culture of Veliky Novgorod and Novgorod land of the 12th-20th centuries. 24 publications of the Collection consider issues of socio-political relations, religious life, administrative arrangements, archeology, historiographic research. There is also published the forgotten and newly found works on the history of the ancient Russian city.

 

A director of the School of Humanities Elena Toropova first presented a new Collection: “Birthday is always a good thing, the birth of a book is twice as good thing and the Collection has a lot of parents.”

 

One of the "parents" is a deputy executive editor of the collection, vice-principal of the St. Petersburg Institute of History of the Russian Academy of Sciences Alexander Chistikov said: "I would like to note the uniqueness of this publication: firstly, we celebrate the 80th anniversary of the collection, and secondly, this collection is created jointly by Novgorod State University and the Russian Academy of Sciences." At the same time, he expressed great gratitude to the University for participation and assistance in its financing.

A candidate of historical sciences Yaroslav Vasilyev emphasized that residents of Novosibirsk region are eagerly awaiting the distribution of this Collection, because they consider this book to be a valuable one as they reach a small part of the produced materials from the center of Russia.

 

For reference: The publication was founded in 1936 on the initiative of an academician Boris Grekov and subsequently was carried out on the basis of the Novgorod section of the Institute of History of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR, established in December 1938. Before the World War II, only eight issues had been published. The publication of the ninth edition in 1959 was time to coincide with the 1100th anniversary of Veliky Novgorod. After the tenth issue, a long break came again. 

The "Novgorod Historical Collection" is one of the leading scientific publications on the history of Novgorod and Novgorod land, which has been publishing for 80 years. During this time, 26 editions have already been published, in which there are about 430 works on various issues of the Novgorod history and culture.
