19.05.2014  Week of international cooperation is opened. Guests arrived from 10 countries of the world

On 19 May, the Opening Ceremony of the traditional Week of International Cooperation took place in NovSU. About 80 guests from 10 countries participated in it – there were representatives of Germany, Poland, Denmark, Turkey, Belarus, Ukraine, the USA, Italy, Finland and Russia. At 9.20 a.m. they were met with bread-and-salt welcome and songs by the “Jaroslavna” group, then participants went to the third lecture hall. There the guests were greeted by Vice Rector for International Affairs Mikhail Pevzner, Rector of NovSU Viktor Weber, Deputy Governor of Novgorod region Alexander Smirnov, Deputy Mayor of Veliky Novgorod Anton Zemlyak, Chairman of the Novgorod Duma Vladimir Timofeev, Director of German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) information center in St. Petersburg Michael Kleineberg, Associate Vice Chancellor for International Programs at Appalachian State University Jesse Lutabingwa. 

In particular, Mikhail Pevzner mentioned that in spite of complicated international situation, all the guests came, and it was very important for NovSU.

The Rector of NovSU Viktor Weber had the privilege of opening the Week. He reminded that nowadays NovSU cooperates with 57 universities in 29 countries, international cooperation is a high-priority direction, which is constantly developing – from pedagogy to medicine, engineering, IT-technologies, renovation etc. He also said that he was very glad to see both old friends and new partners. 

The deputy governor of the Novgorod region Alexander Smirnov presented the region to the guests and noted that the region tried to increase its economic capacity, which was impossible without competent specialists, who were trained at NovSU and its colleges. 

Director of German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) information center Michael Kleineberg said that he participated in the Week for the first time and was already impressed by pleasant and hospitable atmosphere, which gave the hope for success. The Associate Vice Chancellor for International Programs at Appalachian State University Jesse Lutabingwa also confessed that he felt like among friends.

All in all, the Week of international cooperation, which would end on 23 May, included dozens of events: international seminars, negotiations of foreign delegations and NovSU leaders, visits to NovSU schools and other educational institutions, IT-management school, intellectual competition “Russian Brain-Ring”, presentation of Technology center etc. Besides serious events, some “tasty” ones were planned: “National Cuisine” and “Russian Evening Tea” at the restaurant “Parmskaya Obitel (The Charterhouse of Parma)”.
