25.05.2014  NovSU’s contribution to lessons of Slavonic literature

Within the framework of the Slavonic Writing Day celebration, an open lesson took place in the Regional Educational Institution of Secondary Vocational Education “College of Technology”. The lesson for the students of the College was delivered by the Russian Language and Literature teacher Svetlana Rychkova. The Chief of Institute of Further Education Vladimir Shadurskiy was invited to the college to represent NovSU.

The lesson was so entertaining for the audience – both students and invited teachers – that it seemed that the founders of the literature Saint Kirill and Saint Mefody were present at the lesson with their beneficial spirit and enlightened energy, and their exploit, their life-work was understood by everyone. Future stylists and visagistes were found to be not only students, but also lecture-associates. Of course, there was great preparation, independent work and choice of the materials for the video-presentation (improvisation is of no use in the event of such kind), but the plan of the lecture had to be fulfilled. And everything was perfect. It was important for students to get information on Slavonic literature and they’ve got it. It was important to show how much we appreciate literature, and it had been shown. Various methods used by Svetlana Rychkova for the presentation of the material didn’t draw the attention away. That is why the reasons for the celebration, its meaning official foundation and acknowledgement were profoundly described. The students got to know how and why the Slavonians had had to prove their right to conduct divine services in their native language, what sanctity and psalm-book were. Besides answering questions the lecturers and the students performed a hymn to Saint Kirill and Mefody during the special segments of the lecture, read poem ‘Word’ by Nikolay Gumiloyv by heart, wrote down the most important information. Deep and profound words of educational specialist Sergey Rachinskiy were mentioned as well as an analogy with the events of Nikolay Gogol’s story ‘Taras Bulba’.

The most valuable for the Russian language native speaker truths were presented emotionally during the lecture. Finally the song ‘To Brothers Slavonians’ connected with the events in Ukraine was performed. A video clip was shown, after which no one could stay indifferent. Svetlana Rychkova finished her lecture with the words, which gave the summary of it: ‘We must feel the connection between times. If one rewrites books and betrays the Russian language and Slavonian unity, a disaster happens’.

It should be noticed that invitation of students-philologists from NovSU as well as the lecture itself is the continuation of the work started in September-October 2013 and organized by the NovSU Faculty of Philology and Institute of Further Education. Then, within the framework of humanity-educational project ‘The 1150th Annivercary of Slavonian Writing’ the lessons for school teachers and college professors were conducted by T.V.Shmelyova and V.G.Didkovskaya. It was a kind of presentation of higher-qualification module for secondary school and secondary vocational education teachers. Several teachers represented  their projects in October, but  Svetlana Rychkova inspired by Тatiana Shmelyova’s lectures and armed with the given literature decided to organize a symbolic lesson to the Saint Kirill and Mefody’s Day, the first teachers and enlighteners of Slavonians. She managed to do it brilliantly.

We hope that the cooperation of the university professors and school teachers  will be continued with new projects.
