Рассматривается процесс отречения Николая II в контексте антимонархических действий привилегированных слоев русского общества, дана характеристика духовно-нравственного состояния народа в преддверии Русской Революции. Особый акцент автор поставил на освещении деструктивных действий военной элиты, побудивших царя отречься от престола. Значительное внимание уделено позиции и поведению русского священства, приветствовавшего отречение императора Николая II. Одновременно в работе подвергаются критике мифологические модели, связанные с оценкой жизни и мученической кончины царской семьи, с оценкой последнего выбора императора, то есть его отречения.

The article discusses the process of Nicholas II’s abdication in the context of the antimonarchist actions of the privileged strata of Russian society and describes the spiritual and moral condition of the people on the eve of the Russian Revolution. The author placed particular emphasis on covering the destructive actions of the military elite, which prompted the king to abdicate the throne. Considerable attention is paid to the position and behaviour of the Russian priesthood, who welcomed the abdication of Emperor Nicholas II. At the same time, mythological models related to the assessment of the life and martyr’s death of the royal family, the assessment of the last choice of the emperor, that is, his renunciation, are criticized in the work.
