14.05.2019  The XIX International Scientific Conference “Spirituality of Russian Art and Education (Nikitsky Readings)” in Veliky Novgorod

On May 10 - 13, the XIX International Scientific Conference “Spirituality of Russian Art and Education (Nikitsky Readings)” was held in Veliky Novgorod.

Every year, the Readings in memory of St. Nikita, the Bishop of Novgorod are held (with an additional dedication to milestones in the life of Russia). In 2019, the Readings are dedicated to the 900th anniversary of the construction of the Cathedral of St. George at St. George Monastery.

The Readings, as usual, addressed to a wide range of issues related to a comprehensive study of the links between the Orthodox religion and the main forms of Russian art: verbal, pictorial, musical, architectural, and decorative.

Particular attention was paid to the experience of national pedagogy, which is regarded as “art from the arts”, which brings up a good, fair and excellent personality from a young age.

Orthodox spirituality was considered within cooperation with the overall area of Russian self-awareness development: in cooperation, and sometimes in the struggle with other historically arising directions of the spiritual and soulless world perception, which are reflected in art and pedagogy.
