01.03.2014  Maslenitsa is the send-off of the Russian winter

On the last winter day 28 February, the Students Body of NovSU School of Agriculture and Natural Resources organized a special holiday – Maslenitsa.

Maslenitsa is the send-off of the Russian winter and greeting of such a long-awaited spring. This favorite Russian holiday has its roots in pagan times. It is considered that initially Maslenitsa was connected with the spring equinox, but after the adoption of Christianity people started to celebrate it before the Lent.

Pancakes cooked with love and different staffing left nobody indifferent. Among them there were University teachers, who said that the pancakes were cooked very skillfully.

Ruddy girls, tea, bagels, samovar and singing completed and recreated the atmosphere of the holiday. People ate, drank lots of tea and communicated with each other. Nobody was left hungry!

For students and their teachers the holiday of Maslenitsa has become a peculiar immersion into the atmosphere of Russian merrymakings in the middle of the day.
