THE RUSSIAN LANGUAGE COURSES FOR INTERNS FROM FOREIGN UNIVERSITIES

The following elective courses are offered to those who wish to attain the 1st certification level of Russian (B1) (the number of courses is chosen by a student, the total number of classes depends on the duration of an internship):
1. Speak Good Russian (conversation practice)
The course topics:

You will acquire more independence in a foreign environment and will be able to orient yourself in most typical everyday situations, as well as solve a substantial part of most frequently encountered problems in everyday life.
You will be able to understand short dialogues and derive facts from them (topic, time, relationships, object characteristics, goals, reasons); understand expanded dialogues and express your opinion about the speakers’ statements and actions; understand oral announcements, news, sociocultural information.
You will be able to participate in dialogues in a rather wide range of situations in everyday life; start, keep up and finish a conversation; keep up conversations on various topics (yourself, your work, profession, interests, country, city, culture issues etc.).
2. Grammar and Writing Practice
The grammar course topics:
1. Something new about the Russian cases.
2. The verb: participle and adverbial participle.
3. The verbs of motion without and with prefixes.
4. Degrees of comparison of adjectives and adverbs.
5. Compound and complex sentences.
You will learn new meanings of the Russian cases familiar to you and learn how to make statements using these forms; you will learn that Russian verbs have two special forms, and one can say that someone goes somewhere on foot or by transport in different ways. You will be able to show your new knowledge of the Russian grammar when discussing topics suggested by your teacher for written tasks.
The writing practice topics: “The role of foreign languages in our lives”, “The system of education in my country”, “The choice of profession and workplace”, “The problems of the modern city”, “Culture and traditions of my country”, “Famous scientists and cultural figures”.
3. Text by text – the whole world!
Approximate topics for reading: “Learning of foreign languages”, “Russian scientists, painters, composers”, “History of Russia”, “Ecological problems”, “Issues of war and peace”, “Modern global issues”, “Youth and the world”, “Character and looks of a person”, “Issues of education”, “What we like...”, “Culture and art in the modern world”, “Politics and us”, “Education in different countries” etc.
The texts offered cover social and cultural issues and are minimally adapted. They may be presented as stories, articles, fairy tales, descriptive texts.
Creative activities are organized on the basis of the texts you read in class such as: continuing a story, making up your own story following an example, telling a story as one of its characters, writing an essay and expressing your opinion, making up dialogues etc.
4. Learn how to listen and understand!
This is a listening course. The audio files cover social, cultural and everyday issues.
DIALOGUES: “Students’ worries and problems”, “Places to go in your free time”, “Modern youth in dialogues”, “Talks about holidays”, “Talks about an outdoor rest”, “Russian etiquette in dialogues”, “Numbers around us” etc.;
MONOLOGUES: “The Russian scientist Zhores Alferov”, “The Russian writer Anton Pavlovich Chekhov”, “Russian holidays”, “History of Russia”, “Famous Russian museums”, “The Russian painter Ilya Glazunov”, “The Russian composer Sergei Rachmaninoff”, “Ancient Russian cities”, “Memory of the war”, “Ecological problems” etc.
The course includes cartoons, fragments of feature films, records of TV programs.
5. Talk about Russia in Russian
The course topics:

You will learn a lot of useful information about Russia and the Russians. You will form a general impression about the political system of Russia, Russian national peculiarities, education, traditions, leisure activities of the Russians. The course “Talk about Russia in Russian” will help you understand the Russian mentality, quickly and easily adapt to communicating in Russian, as well as broaden your vocabulary and freshen up your stock of grammar rules.
The course topics: “Physical geography of Russia”, “Economic and social geography of Russia”.
The course will introduce you to the geographical location and nature of Russia. Besides, you will gain a general impression about the economic and social geography of Russia and the following topics: the main branches of economics, multinational population of Russia, Russian culture and traditions, folk crafts.
It is planned to hold master classes in making Russian traditional souvenirs.
7. Russian culture and history: introduction to Veliky Novgorod
The course topics:
You will read small texts covering various aspects of country studies (supplemented with audio and video files), talk to a teacher on the topic of the lesson, do some written tasks and attend excursions organized by the Novgorod State Museum and Preserve and held in foreign languages.
8. Russian for economists
The course includes a necessary language basis for successful communication about economic issues. You will learn how to use professional vocabulary, lexical units and example phrases in speech, present economic information to others, describe schemas, tables, graphics on the basis of the acquired information, ask for and tell professional information.
The course topics: “Economics as a science”, “The basics of the market economics”.
